Just Roots is a nonprofit community organization based in Greenfield, Massachusetts. Best known for developing and operating one of the largest SNAP-enrolled, low-income Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs in the state, Just Roots is a leader in the effort to include and engage all people in the local food economy.
The farm operates on 61 acres of town-owned land, with 13 acres in diversified fruit and vegetable production supporting a year-round local CSA, a food is medicine prescription-based CSA, and other food access partners throughout Franklin County. The site is also home to 67 community garden plots stewarded by individuals, friends, families, and local organizations.
During our visit, we’ll focus on the practical realities of running a community farm: farming on municipal land, balancing production with public access, managing multiple programs on a single site, and aligning farm operations with food access goals. We’ll also dig into the mechanics of our year-round CSA and food hub operations, including crop-planning, aggregation, and distribution.
